This week was spring break so it allowed me to do a lot of research into what I am going to play at regionals. At first I was going to play psychatog or ubg control when I decided to look into a deck that I saw at a local jss, "PT Junk". The deck placed 3rd but smashed the top 15 year old and under player consistently who was playing gomar. I decided that day to start looking into the deck but as far as regionals was concerned nothing was decided. This week I must have read 10 reports on "PT Junk" trying to find out every angle of the deck possible. On Friday night when I got to the store the guy who had my 3/4 complete "PT Junk" deck didn't show up. I was going to sit this tournament out but at the last minute he shows up. I go to my friend Mario and pick up the last Vindicates I need for my deck, then I remember that my friend has my playset of caves and my playset of Spectral lynx so I pick up 2 Spectral lynx and four Caves of koilos. I am forced to sub Plague spitters for the lynx because no one has Phyrexian ragers, not even the store! finally I am ready and I sit down to play.
Round 1 Mario playing UWB desolation angel control
Mario is a really good player and a good friend of mine. He's helped me out in a lot of tournaments.
game 1: Mario gets stuck on three lands and I Vindicate his Coastal tower to stick him with no source of white mana to play Spectral lynx. He gets trampled by spiritmonger and call tokens.
game 2: He gets a decent amount of lands but see's no counters. I get rid of his hand in about 4 turns and run him over with a Mystic enforcer (pre-threshold). He plays Wrath of god putting me into threshold and next turn I drop another Mystic enforcer and he scoops.
1-0 2-0
Round 2 Mark playing GRb fires
This round lasts less than 10 minutes.
game 1: I get lots of early discard and demolish his hand in 3 turns and then play a Spiritmonger and disrupt his mana with Vindicate.
game 2: See game 1.
2-0 4-0
Round 3 James playing ubg control.
James has a really solid deck but seems to get beat a lot despite that.
game 1: Game is really close until he drops a Spiritmonger and I don't have an answer.
Game 2: This game is also very close but I establish control and Haunting echoes him and he scoops.
Game 3: Game three went just like game two only the Haunting echoes resolves without a scoop and he is left with 2 Prohibit and one Pernicious deed in his deck.
3-0 6-1
Round 4 Barry playing a very good version of Wb weenie.
We decide to split and both make top 8.
3-0-1 6-1
Round 5 first round of top eight, I play Mark again.
game one: He and I play tag with our Spiritmongers until I drop another Spiritmonger and he loses.
game two: I draw lots of land. I play some early threats and he Obliterates but I have 2 lands in my hand along with a Ravenous rats. My next two draws are lands so a rat and a flashbacked Call of the herd take the day.
4-0-1 8-1
Round 6 Louie with Wr weenie
He is a good player but he wouldn't trade me Spiritmongers before the tournament so I payed him back.
game one: Back to back Resilient wanderers have me bad until I get rid of his hand and drop a Call of the herd token and flash it back the next turn to win.
game two: This game is really close. At one point I am stuck with a
Spiritmonger and a Mystic enforcer (with threshold) versus two Resilient wanderers and a Mystic crusader. Somehow he gets rid of my Mystic enforcer so I am stuck with just a spiritmonger. He declares his attack phase and to his surprise I rout as an instant (I know I know, it doesn't go in "PT Junk" but I built the sideboard in less then 5 minutes). The next turn I flashback a call of the herd and drop ravenous rats and he loses.
5-0-1 10-1
round 7 barry again
This match was very intense
game one: I get very little discard and I beat him into the ground with a Spiritmonger and a Nantuko Cultivator as a 3/3 after multiple deeds and edicts and then deed for 3 and win.
game two: I rape his hand with discard but he still recovers before I have a chance. Chainer's edict cleans up and I drop a Spiritmonger for the win.
6-0-1 12-1
