I've been playing a lot of Modern since the unbanning of Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Bloodbraid Elf and I'm reasonably confident that this White-Blue Death and Taxes deck is a very good choice in the current metagame. I wrote an article about it a few weeks ago with a detailed sideboard guide and matchup analysis for most of the popular matchups. Today I'm going to walk you through how to pilot the deck, showing you some of the ins and outs, rules of thumb for mulligans, and lines of reasoning you should go through when making decisions with the deck.

As is the case with any of my instructional videos, the goal is to teach. So even if you're not well-versed in Modern or interested in playing this particular deck, the videos are still a great resource for improving your ability to analyze game states. And for anyone else who is not interested in the deck or in improving your overall play, I included an exciting bonus video at the end that is definitely worth watching. It's a recent draft game I played where I had to fight through Tetzimoc, Primal Death twice in the same game!

This is the deck I played:

This is how I sideboarded in the matchups:

For a more detailed and thorough sideboard guide and matchup analysis of each of the most popular decks in Modern, look here.

Storm

On the play:

+3 Rest in Peace
+3 Surgical Extraction
+3 Burrenton Forge-Tender

-4 Serum Visions
-1 Field of Ruin
-4 Mirran Crusader

On the draw:

-1 Leonin Arbiter
-1 Restoration Angel
+2 Serum Visions

Mardu Pyromancer

This is what I would recommend:

+3 Rest in Peace
+3 Burrenton Forge-Tender

-2 Aether Vial
-3 Mirran Crusader
-1 Path to Exile

The Wrath effects were suboptimal in the Mardu matchup and I think I would rather keep in a pair of Vials and a crusader. Against Bant Company (and in most creature matchups) I think they are much better, even though I didn't draw them vs Bant.

Bant Company

+1 Wrath of God
+1 Supreme Verdict
+1 Day of Judgment
+1 Rest in Peace

-4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben

Also for those interested, I ended up going 3-0 in the draft and this is a screenshot of my deck:
