Hello and welcome to another edition of Magic Super Sellers, the column where we go through the ten best-selling cards of the week with a hastily-researched who, what, where, when, and why of each one. I'm Jon Corpora, managing editor of magic.tcgplayer.com, and I'll be your guide to the wizard squares today. Let's dive right in.
First up is Soul-Scar Mage. It was in SaffronOlive's budget mono-red Standard deck from a couple weeks ago, but hasn't really shown up in any other decks since. It's a cheap pickup, so I'm guessing folks are gobbling them up because the opportunity's there and it could be good? Maybe? I don't know.
These days, I measure my life in what percentage of it I have to use up talking about Fatal Push. yeah, it's a good card. It's also the bane of my existence. It's good in every format, and has totally changed the complexion of Modern and Legacy. It's really, really good. Let's keep moving.
Longtusk Cub is a cheap creature with plays really well with energy. If the Cub hits once, the effect snowballs, allowing it to get around a LOT of the removal in Standard.
Sheltered Thicket made a new friend this week: Scattered Groves! Both cards cracked the Top 10 this week, and when more dual-lands rotate out when Ixalan enters Standard, the cycling Amonkhet lands will only go up in value.
Speaking of Ixalan, there were some very, very unofficial card leaks yesterday, revealing that the set would be all about pirates and all about tribal. As a result, Kari Zev, Skyship Raider, a pirate creature from Aether Revolt, sold a bunch in anticipation.
Dubious Challenge is back for an encore, and, uh, yeah. The card is still bad. I don't care who it beat on camera. Anything can happen in a game of Magic.
And the best-selling cards for the billionth time are⦠the full-art lands from Amonkhet! Plains was technically our ninth-best seller, but the rest of the lands took up spots one through four.
And there you have it. Let us know what you thought in the comments, and enjoy the GP coverage this weekend. I'll see you next week.
